Who we are

The HHS/ED Children’s Center by Reggio’s Treehouse is a beautiful, spacious NAEYC accredited facility offering a whole-child approach to early education, emphasizing play, learning, the arts, and a nurturing environment. The Children’s Center primarily serves the HHS/ED (Health & Human Services (HHS) Department of Education (ED)) community, however, all federal workers and contractors as well as surrounding neighbors are welcome to apply. This center boasts a grand view of our nation’s Capitol while your little one plays, as well as easy access to enriching family friendly activities in the local area. With a strong and dedicated community of loving, well-trained teachers with continuing education in the field of early childhood development, a quality curriculum based on developmentally-appropriate practices and geared toward the whole child, as well as catered lunches and snacks, the Children’s Center at HHS/ED is a top choice for your child!

About us

As a Reggio Emilia inspired program, we embrace your child’s interest to develop a curriculum that is meaningful and age-appropriate for your child. Our staff are highly-trained, nurturing and caring. Our approach to early childhood education strengthens critical thinking, builds language and literacy skills, and promotes a healthy self-esteem so that every child faces the world with confidence. We emphasize the development of a positive self-concept through positive reinforcement, understanding, trust, and love.

All of our centers are currently operating on a COVID-19 schedule. The HHS center offers full day, all-week programs, with drop in care offered based on availability.

classrooms

RADICI (RA’DITJE)
infants

In this program, your baby will receive warm, positive and nurturing attention. Our caregivers provide an enriched environment, with lots of activities to do and interesting things to see, hear, taste and touch. Infants are capable of absorbing and organizing a great deal of information about the world around them, so staff talk, read and sing with them about what is happening. A foundation of trust and competence is established as caregivers provide hugs, encouraging words, and lots of smiles. A key component is the opportunity for parents to be involved in their infant’s program.

GAMBO (‘GAMBO)
young toddlers

This program is centered on the natural curiosity and energy of very young children. It encourages individual exploration and begins to teach fundamental skills. Special emphasis is placed on language development and self-help capabilities that build self-esteem. Your child will enjoy interacting with new friends that are his/her own age and will begin to develop appropriate social skills.

FOGLIA(FÒGLIA)
older toddlers

Their leaves are blooming and students are learning how to express themselves using the “100 languages of children”. They start to learn how to organize themselves and start exploring where they are in time and place.

ALBERELLO (AL’BA’REL’LO)
preschool

As we grow into young saplings, children have attained all standards of learning via our Reggio and PBL approach and are prepared for Kindergarten. They will have a more complex understanding of all the content taught throughout the program and will be able to guide their own learning. They will have incorporated all attributes in the learner profile.
